About Nina
Niña is a 1-year-old, 13-pound Chihuahua mix from California with a heart as big as her personality! This affectionate, playful, and incredibly sweet girl has adjusted beautifully to life in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Niña loves to cuddle, play with her toys, and spend quality time with her foster family. While she can be playful and excited, she settles down easily and does a wonderful job matching the energy of her home. Whether it's playtime or relaxation time, Niña is happy to be part of it. She's currently learning “sit” and making great progress with her obedience training. Niña is very food-motivated, which makes training both fun and effective. She appears to be house-trained -using pee pads and going outside. On leash, she walks nicely with a loose lead, though she's still adjusting to busy city life. She can be timid outdoors and may feel nervous around loud noises, groups of people, strollers, and sometimes other dogs. The good news is that she grows braver with each walk! She does not have touch sensitivities and calmly allows her foster family to wipe her paws after outings. Niña is comfortable in her crate and will go in on her own for meals or to relax during the day. She may whine briefly when first crated but settles down after a short time. She does experience some separation anxiety, so her forever family should be prepared to continue building her confidence and independence. Inside the home, Niña is generally quiet and only barks to alert when someone enters. She adores being cozy and can often be found curled up on a blanket near her people. She especially loves playing fetch indoors—she'll happily bring her toy back and drop it again and again until she's tired herself out (perfect for apartment living!). Niña would thrive in a low-key to moderately active home that offers a balance of playtime and downtime. She could do well either with another dog companion or as a solo pup. She has also done well living with two cats in her foster home. Because she can be sensitive to noise and commotion, we recommend a home with older children. Niña is a loving little companion who will flourish with continued guidance, patience, and lots of snuggles. Vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Tested for vector-borne illnesses. Current on flea, tick, and heart worm prevention.
