When it comes to other dogs, Sammy is friendly and eager but still learning his social manners. With gentle verbal corrections and positive reinforcement, he quickly learned how to respectfully coexist with a very geriatric 15-year-old dog. While he’s done well in that setting, Sammy would truly thrive with a younger, playful dog who can match his energy and enjoy playing with him. Sammy has been wonderful with older kids and has done great around his nephews, ages 10 and 12. Due to his exuberant nature, he may be a bit too much for very young children. He’s also a little too enthusiastic about cats, so a feline-free home would be best for him. A total people-pleaser, Sammy is very treat-motivated and eager to learn. He walks well on leash and has learned "heel" (for the most part!) and "leave it" using positive reinforcement. With continued training and consistency, he’s sure to keep shining. Sammy’s ideal home is one where he’ll receive plenty of love, attention, and mental stimulation—think daily walks, playtime, and opportunities to use that big, smart brain of his.
