About Gus In Nj

Say hello to Gus, a handsome Great Pyrenees with the classic look you know and love - that gorgeous, soft, plush coat that has you reaching to give lots of pets. Plus, he’s always sporting the biggest smile! This sweet, shy boy is currently in boarding and ready to find his foster or forever home! Gus spent two years working as a livestock guardian dog, keeping a watchful eye over his flock - and he took that job very seriously (the chickens and ducks will vouch for him!). He's lived in a home before too, so he's ready to enjoy the indoor life, with lots of outside access. Non-destructive and treat-motivated, Gus knows his basics (sit, stay, leave it, and hop up) and is genuinely smart - he will even come when called (sometimes). Your odds improve if you have Milkbones, as they are the way to his heart! Out and about, Gus is energetic and enthusiastic, keeping a brisk pace on the leash. His guardian instincts are strong, so he'll need a sturdy 6-foot fence to keep his adventurous spirit safely contained. He does wonderfully with other animals and warms up beautifully to new people when introduced by someone he trusts. Hedgehogs, however, are firmly on his watch list! Gus would thrive with an active family or in a home with other animals. He's a loyal, devoted guardian angel — and once he lets you in, he's the sweetest boy around. Please fill out the application on our website and we will contact you. HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTION-APPLICATION/ Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
