Below is some information about the adoption process and the shelter: Safe Place for Animals does not do same-day adoptions and adoptions are not on a first come, first serve basis. Each pet is unique, so the SPA team works diligently to ensure the best match between every pet and adopter. Applying to adopt does not guarantee approval, as all applications are thoroughly reviewed, including veterinary and personal reference checks. You will be contacted if approved; if not, due to volunteer constraints, you may not hear back, but are encouraged to follow up after a week. The shelter is open for visits at Safe Place for Animals, 905 Mallard Drive, Gallatin, Tennessee, Monday-Saturday 1:00-4:00 pm (no appointment required unless specified), and Sundays by appointment.

Questions about Doug

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Chihuahuas are best suited for indoor living environments, such as apartments or homes where they can be close to their families. They enjoy being part of household activities and thrive on companionship.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Chihuahuas do not require large outdoor spaces. Short walks and supervised playtime in a small yard or garden are usually sufficient for their exercise needs.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Chihuahuas can do well with older, respectful children, but their small size makes them more fragile, so caution is advised around younger kids to prevent accidental injury.
