Shadow, Gentle Giant with a Bigger Heart Shadow is a handsome 19-month-old Shepherd/Retriever mix (about 85 lbs) with a gentle, easygoing personality and a heart to match his size. Shadow is looking for a new home through no fault of his own after his previous family experienced an unexpected housing situation and could no longer keep him or his canine sister. He is housebroken, knows “sit,” and takes treats nicely when told “gentle.” On walks he does well, though he may pull a bit in new places while taking everything in. Shadow loves squeaky toys, enjoys burying his bones like a true retriever, and absolutely adores being brushed. Baths aren’t his favorite, but he behaves beautifully for them. He may bark at squirrels or unfamiliar people approaching at first, but once he hears a friendly voice, he settles quickly and is happy to meet new friends. Out and about, he enjoys attention from kind people and is easy to pet. Shadow would do best in homes with adults or older children. He previously lived with another dog and got along very well with her. He is curious and playful with cats, but slow introductions would be recommended. You will be asked to return for at least one follow-up visit, then take the dog home for a trial period before officially adopting. • You must be 21 years or older to adopt from STAF. • Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training, we can not adopt to homes with invisible fences. • We do request vet and personal references. • We can facilitate adoptions within a 30-mile radius of our Cincinnati-based shelter.
