About Mika

NOTE: MIKA IS WITH HER RESCUER IN SACRAMENTO, CA. GSRSV HAS NOT MET MIKA. WE ARE LISTING HER ON THIS WEBSITE ALONG WITH OUR OWN DOGS TO GIVE HER MORE ADOPTION EXPOSURE. SEE END OF THIS PROFILE FOR CONTACT INFO. “Mika” is an approx 60-lb, 8-9 yo female GSD mix (likely GSD/Husky) who is loving, playful and devoted. Mika is healthy, microchipped and up-to-date on core vaccinations (good through July 2028). Mika is good with strangers. In the house, she gets excited to meet new people and is non-reactive towards them when out on walks. Mika is great with young children—she loves them! Mika is good with other dogs. She’s a little nervous upon meeting new dogs at first, but eventually relaxes and then will play with them (as long as they don’t try to dominate her). She’s also good with small dogs. Mika has not been observed with cats indoors. She chases away cats who come into the yard, so a home without cats is recommended. Mika is housetrained and is allowed free-roam of the house when her person (Amanda) is gone. She obeys many commands, including “sit, stay, shake, down, OK (release), and no.” Mika walks well on leash. She does pull somewhat at the beginning of walks but responds well to correction. She is non-reactive towards other dogs when on walks. Mika’s off-leash recall is good in enclosed areas but is a work-in-progress out in the open. Mika enjoys going for car rides and is a calm passenger for the most part. Mika loves playing with stuffies and is pretty good about not destroying them. She likes to play fetch with stuffies or a treat-dispensing ball. Amanda found Mika at a park a few years ago with a rope around her neck—she was extremely underweight, dirty and lethargic. She also had a bad case of heartworms. Amanda paid for Mika’s treatment and cared for her at home with her boyfriend until she fully recovered, which took about a year. Amanda has a medical condition that limits her ability to walk Mika regularly. Her boyfriend took care of Mika’s exercise and outings. Their plan was always to find Mika a permanent home elsewhere. Amanda and her boyfriend recently separated, and what was once a slow and careful search for Mika’s permanent home has become more urgent. Amanda has friends that stop by here and there to help walk Mika, but she’s not getting the exercise she needs. Mika is located in Sacramento. Her adoption fee is $50. Please contact Amand Visger at 530-575-7452 or amanda.visger@gmail.com.
