About Chica

What are you waiting for? Apply today! Chica is a lively and energetic 4½-year-old, 45-pound spayed female German Shepherd mix who is currently looking for a loving new home through no fault of her own. Although we haven’t met her in person, Chica’s current owner has shared that she is playful, protective, and thrives with an active lifestyle. She is in great health, up to date on her vaccinations, and microchipped for safety. Chica gets along well with strangers, both inside and outside the home, though she’s more of a friendly greeter than a cuddler—she’ll get to know new people and then keep herself occupied. She’s also wonderful with young children, making her a good match for families. Chica is especially fond of other dogs, with a preference for small dogs and those who can match her energy during playtimes. She’s a seasoned dog park regular and loves to chase, wrestle, and run with her canine friends. Since Chica has not been around cats, her ideal home would be cat-free. She is fully house trained, enjoys sleeping inside near her people, and has access to both the backyard and garage for comfort while her owner is away. Chica does show some anxious behaviors when left alone, such as barking or chewing, especially when she anticipates her owner’s return or sees activity outside. She’s had formal obedience training, walks beautifully on leash, and is non-reactive toward other dogs. Her recall is strong unless a squirrel or another distraction is nearby. Chica loves car rides and being a polite passenger, often lying down or sticking her head out the window to enjoy the breeze. Playtime is a big highlight for Chica—she loves fetch, enjoys playing in water up to her shoulders, and will entertain herself with puzzle toys like Kong balls. While not an expert swimmer, she relishes retrieving tennis balls from shallow water. Chica has been a devoted companion since being adopted as a puppy, but due to a biting incident related to roommate tensions and excitement when her owner returns home, she needs a new environment to thrive. Chica is located in Newbury Park, Southern California. If you think your family could offer her the loving and active home she deserves, please reach out using the contact information provided just below. Lets make it official, apply to adopt!
