About Katy

Katy - The Gentle Soul with a Signature Move There's a moment - right before Katy trusts you completely - when she rises up on her hind legs, places her paws softly on your shoulders, and looks right into your eyes as if to say, "Okay... I'm yours." It's not a jump. It's not excitement. It's her quiet way of asking for connection - a gentle hold that feels like both a question and an answer. Katy is a 2-year-old German Shepherd/Kelpie mix, 50 pounds of honey-colored calm with a heart stitched together from softness and survival. She's crate trained, potty trained, and currently undergoing heartworm treatment (covered completely by the rescue). None of that dims her glow - if anything, it makes her light shine warmer. She's cautious with the world, not because she's broken, but because she knows how fragile kindness can be. Loud noises startle her; sudden movements make her pause. But in a quiet home - one filled with patience, steadiness, and maybe a sunlit corner or two - Katy blossoms. Her gentleness expands like a secret finally told. She's wonderful with medium and large dogs who share her respectful rhythm, and while her feelings about cats and tiny pups are TBD, slow introductions are her love language. She's also a little wary of men - not out of fear, but self-preservation. Give her time, though, and she'll decide you're safe - and when she does, she'll give you her whole, trembling, steadfast heart. She adores children, snuggles, and the simple miracle of belonging. Katy doesn't demand much - just safety, understanding, and a human whose idea of love looks like presence. Because when you meet her, you'll realize: she isn't asking for a home. She's offering one. Sometimes love doesn't come crashing in. It tiptoes, leans in gently, and wraps its paws around your heart. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue). The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as our website, Chewy, Pet Finder, and others. These are in no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed. ***Take Paws Rescue saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized, and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it's the perfect match!
