About Dexter Morgan

Unlike his TV namesake, this Dexter isn't hiding a dark side-he's hiding under the covers, snuggled up with his humans. If you're looking for a sweet shadow who wants to follow you from the couch to the kitchen to (yes) even the bathroom, Dexter Morgan is your guy. Since settling into his foster home, Dexter has truly blossomed. He's discovered the joy of soft beds and squeaky toys, and he plays with his humans like the happy puppy he is. He is an incredibly people-focused pup, and to ensure his success and happiness, he needs a structured home environment: He would be happiest as the only dog, allowing him to have all the attention. If you have another dog (calm, like-sized or larger), slow introductions would be required, and management (like kenneling when unsupervised) will be essential. We also recommend a home without small children or small animals. Dexter is very food-motivated (he'll definitely tell you when it's dinnertime) and must be fed separately in his kennel to manage his resource guarding. He's 99% potty trained but does best when his human walks with him out to the grass, and is learning that leashes mean adventure. In busy social settings, he shines-confident, curious, and friendly with everyone he meets. He's not the biggest fan of the kennel, but he'll tolerate it for short stretches, and with consistency, he'll be an easy dog to train. At just 8 months old and about 25 lbs, Dexter is still growing into the loyal, goofy, gentle companion he's meant to be. He's up to date on vaccines, preventatives, and neutered. Dexter Morgan is ready to trade his foster shadow role for a forever one. Could he be the little sidekick you've been waiting for? PLEASE READ BELOW: If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to complete an application and read all of our FAQs: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt Please note: Information to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application. *An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application* All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue). The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as our website, Chewy, Pet Finder, and others. These are in no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed. ***Take Paws Rescue saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures.
