About Pumpkin

Meet Pumpkin, a Belgian Shepherd / Malinois mix who’s gone from invisible to unforgettable. When she first arrived at just 9 months old, she was all nerves and shadows—glancing away, moving softly, hoping not to get noticed. After being rescued from a high-kill shelter, Pumpkin started her new chapter wary but, even then, there was a hint of resilience in her gaze. Now, a year old and living in a loving foster home, Pumpkin’s story is shifting. She’s watched her foster siblings, learning from them how to accept kindness and, slowly, she’s inviting people into her world. It’s a quiet transformation: patient, deliberate, and unmistakably heartwarming. Pumpkin shines brightest alongside other dogs—she relaxes when she’s with them, letting herself follow their lead. For this reason, she must have at least one confident dog friend in her new home. She does best in a calm, predictable setting with people who honor her boundaries and celebrate her small victories, like a wagging tail or a gentle nuzzle. The loyalty and affection Pumpkin gives, once earned, are profound. Her journey is about trust, resilience, and the quiet power of second chances. Pumpkin is currently fostered in San Diego but can be transported to the Bay Area for the right home. Click apply to start the adoption process.

Questions about Pumpkin

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Pumpkin, being a Belgian Shepherd / Malinois mix, thrives in a stable home that provides structure and routine. She benefits from a calm environment, especially given her background. A house with a secure yard is ideal, but even an apartment with regular walks can work if the family is committed to her social and exercise needs.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Belgian Shepherd / Malinois mixes like Pumpkin generally do well with access to a yard, but daily walks and playtime are more important than a large outdoor space. Regular outings will help her build confidence and burn off energy.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Pumpkin’s breed is known for being loyal and sensitive. While Malinois mixes can do well with kids, Pumpkin herself needs a calm setting and slow introductions. Older, respectful children who understand giving her space would be most suitable.
