About Leo
Lets make it official, apply to adopt! Meet Leo, a large, energetic, and charismatic four-year-old neutered male German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix weighing about 85 pounds. Originally arriving overweight, he’s slimmed down by nearly 20 pounds and now sports a healthy, athletic look. Leo’s microchipped and up to date on his core vaccinations, making him ready for his new adventure. Leo is friendly and protective, showing excellent watchdog tendencies at home. While he needs proper introductions to new people in the house, he's fantastic with visitors and does well meeting strangers outside of his environment. Leo thrives around young children and is gentle, though his size and enthusiasm mean he might accidentally knock over a little one in play. He’s good with other dogs, including small breeds, thanks to positive socialization at his current rescue ranch. While he used to be reactive to dogs on walks, his social skills have greatly improved, though a strong, confident handler is best for him. Leo could potentially live with cats, having only shown curiosity—not aggression—toward them; slow, careful introductions are recommended. A true house-trained companion, Leo is non-destructive indoors and enjoys sleeping on a cozy bed. If left home alone, it’s best if someone can let him out for breaks if you’ll be away for several hours. On leash, he’s manageable with continued training, and his off-leash recall is fairly reliable. Leo’s a polite car passenger and adores playing fetch—he’s happiest with lots of exercise, playtime, and mental stimulation. He’s not a fan of water but loves staying active. Leo is located at the German Shepherd Rescue of Sacramento Valley, with an adoption fee of $250. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
