Leo, a 3-year-old male German Shepherd mix, has had quite a journey. Originally found as a stray in California, he quickly settled into rescue life before being adopted as a puppy. After a family divorce and a return to rescue, Leo spent valuable time with a trainer and is now thriving in a Seattle foster home. Leo is eccentric, equal parts cuddler and introvert, and somehow manages to twist himself into bizarre sleeping positions just to be close to his person. His crate is his sanctuary—his new home must offer him a safe crate space, or it simply won’t work. Leo warms up gradually to new people and dogs. He can get reactive if another dog is overly forward and generally needs thoughtful introductions. He gets along well with select male and female dogs and has made peace with cats—he lives with them now and could truly care less about their antics. He’s house trained and not food aggressive, but is still learning to take treats gently. Although Leo isn’t a candidate for dog parks, he’s a stellar hiking companion and fantastic on leash. He does best in a home that understands dog behavior and values his need for both company and solitude. A fenced yard is a must, another calm dog can be a bonus, and he’d likely do fine with older kids, but he’s untested around the very young.
