About Mr. Darcy

Your new best friend is just one click away. Mr. Darcy is a charming red, smooth-coated male dachshund who was surrendered when his elderly owner could no longer care for him. At a senior age of 10 years and about 21 pounds, he has just come through bladder stone surgery; his stone type is likely to recur, so he needs a prescription urinary care dog food, plenty of extra water, and regular x-rays and urinalysis to catch stones early. Dedicated owners are encouraged, as early detection means easier, less invasive treatments. He also needs continued support with his diet, as he’s already lost eight pounds but still has more to go—adopters with a track record of keeping dogs fit are a great fit! Mr. Darcy is a sweet, energetic dog who walks well on a leash, delights in car rides, and loves cuddling in bed. He favors women but is learning that men can be great friends, too. He takes time to warm up, but becomes a snuggly buddy once his confidence blooms. A patient adopter experienced with dachshunds, ready for ongoing puppy-like housetraining, is important. Mr. Darcy requires an at-home adopter, a quiet home with a good-sized fenced yard, no children, no cats, and no large dogs. He could enjoy an older dog buddy but will thrive with someone home most of the time. Local Maryland adopters are preferred to allow for a home visit and must be able to travel to Ellicott City to meet him. Give this loving boy the second chance he deserves. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
