About Gretl
Gretl is a young, extra-large Akbash who came to rescue in late 2022 as part of a large stray family found in Emory, Texas. Gretl stands out from her sisters with her progress in socialization—she’s not as naturally outgoing as her mother Maria but is noticeably more comfortable with people than her siblings. Earlier, she suffered a serious swelling and infection in her front right paw, possibly from a bite, which led to plenty of vet visits. Those appointments turned out to be good for her, boosting both her socialization and her skill on a leash. She gets along well with other dogs and is reliably house-trained. Gretl is also crate-trained, though she hasn’t needed the crate in a while. She enjoys attention from the people she knows, but doesn’t always seek it out—she’s more reserved, and may open up more over time. Gretl and her family are being adopted out purely as companions, not livestock guardians. She’s based in Whitewright, TX and ready for a home where she can keep building trust.
