About Herbie
Herbie is a people-focused dog who thrives on human companionship. While he gets excited to see new faces, he stays calm—no barking or jumping—whether inside the house or passing by others on walks. He enjoys curling up alone on the sofa but prefers having someone close, aiming to be a lap dog when possible. Food is one of his great joys, but he’s patient at mealtime, sitting and waiting politely before diving in. Herbie enjoys interactive food puzzles, showing both his gentle nature and his smarts. Twice-daily 30-minute walks are his highlight, though he’d happily take more. He doesn’t spend long outside unless a person is with him; he’d do just as well in an apartment as a house and doesn’t require a fenced yard. On walks, Herbie is calm with people but can be reactive toward other dogs, sometimes barking or jumping if they get too close. He’s making progress but could use some more leash training in this area. Herbie is house trained and has proven trustworthy when left alone for a few hours at a time. He clearly signals when he needs to go out. He doesn’t need crating and manages fine on his own after exercise and meals. He’s quite vocal in the car, so he’s not for road trip enthusiasts, but fine for short vet trips. Herbie gets along with cats and children, making him a fit for diverse households.
