Gary’s story started rough, but he’s made huge strides since arriving at the rescue. After a traumatic incident with an embedded collar and a long stretch at the vet, Gary settled into foster care where he’s been learning what life as a companion dog is supposed to feel like. He’s food-motivated and housebroken, making reward-based training effective. Gary is still working through some puppy-like habits—he can jump when excited and sometimes gets mouthy, though he learns quickly and responds to structure. His favorite game is tug with a rope, but Gary is happy to amuse himself if you’re busy, tossing his toys and chasing them on his own. When it’s time to unwind, he naps in a sunny spot or sprawls out on the couch for a cuddle. Despite his bouncy energy, he’s quiet in his kennel once settled. Gary checks his boundaries with pride, always alert to keep his territory squirrel-free. He’s loyal, sweet, and happiest around people with the strength and experience to keep him progressing on the right track.
