About Oakley

Click apply to start the adoption process. Meet Oakley! Oakley is a 4-year-old neutered male Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler who has blossomed beautifully since coming into foster care. Oakley sports a striking red and blue short coat and a charming ringed tail, making him quite the looker. He's up to date on all his vaccines, including canine influenza, and tested heartworm negative. With a past as a farm dog, Oakley is high energy and has taken great strides in adjusting to household life. He’s extremely friendly with people and is working on his manners to curb his tendency to jump up in excitement. Oakley is fantastic both on and off leash, sticking close with a reliable recall, and he’s proven himself both an enthusiastic swimmer and a fan of agility equipment. He enjoys practicing basic commands, and while his housebreaking is almost perfect, he still has a fondness for counter surfing and chewing if left alone too long—but does great in a crate. Oakley is food motivated and more interested in destroying toys than playing gently with them. He gets along well with other dogs, though his exuberance may be too much for some at first, and he’s even participated in parallel walks with canine companions. Oakley is comfortable with horses and goats and, given a slow introduction, does just fine with cats. However, due to his strong herding instincts and excitement-driven nips, he might not be a match for households with chickens. He absolutely loves car rides but can bark when the vehicle is in motion, an area his foster is continuing to work on with him. Oakley has overcome fly strike on his ears, leaving barely noticeable hair loss, and has a few chipped incisors that could require dental attention in the future but currently do not bother him. Above all, Oakley craves human attention and would thrive with a caring adopter willing to continue his training and help him reach his amazing potential. They are waiting with paws crossed!
