About Finn

FINN IS NOW ON DEADLINE FOR 8/28 & HAS BEEN MADE ADOPTABLE!\n———-\nCODE RED, 8/14 ON EUTH LIST, 72 HR issued, 8/17 may be euthanized! RESCUE ONLY\n\nDOWNEY, CA- LOS ANGELES COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL- ID #A5792642 – "FINN"- A BEAUTIFUL PETITE YOUNGER CHOW GIRL IN NEED OF A SAVVY FOSTER AND RESCUE ASAP- SHY and SCARE, DID NOT DO WELL WITH SMALL DOG- NEEDS IMMEDIATE RESCUE- AND THUS A FOSTER TO SAFE HER LIFE!\n\nDear Finn was allegedly found as a stray and taken in by someone for several weeks. She is listed as only 36 lbs and is estimated to be 3 years old. We understand she is not doing well in a scary shelter environment, and the shelter recommended “Rescue or AP only with a Known History of Aggression form.” The finder also reported she went after their very small dog in the home unfortunately. We are unclear what may have caused the attack, but she is currently recommended to a home with no other small pets at a minimum. \n\nIf you are chow or Asian breed savvy and can open up your home and heart to to foster or foster to adopt, or if you need further help, please contact robinmorgan@cox.net or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network asap as we are trying to find fosters we can then refer to a rescue group to save her in time.\n\nThe shelter also stated: \n"Finn is currently rescue only due to behavioral concerns (KHOA) and is looking for an experienced rescue placement that can give her the time, patience, and structured environment she needs. No small dogs.\n\nFinn has shown significant fear and defensive behavior in the shelter environment, including a tense body, tucked tail, ears back, growling, barking, and avoidance when approached. During an initial attempt to leash her, she was evasive and snapped at the leash, making it unsafe to remove her at that time.\nOn a later interaction, Finn was much more manageable with a slow, quiet approach. She allowed the leash to be placed and walked out of her kennel without incident. During the walk, she checked back with her handler and stayed close in the yard. She remained fearful of direct interaction and would flinch or move away when approached, but with patience, she allowed gentle touch. She was also successfully returned to her kennel and unleashed slowly and without incident.\n\nFinn’s behavior in the shelter may not reflect how she would behave in a home environment. Shelter stress, confinement, unfamiliar people, and the overall environment can significantly impact a dog’s behavior.\n\nFinn will need an experienced rescue willing to work at her pace and provide decompression, patience, structure, and continued behavioral support.\nShe has now been made adoptable & available to rescues. No small dogs.
