About Tex

Tex is the most reserved of the three brothers, and that reserve is not rejection. It is how he figures out the world. Where Tom jumps in and Sawyer keeps up, Tex watches first — in-between in size, and in-between in approach, taking a little longer to decide that you are his. Once he has decided, he is the same dog his brothers are: gentle, affectionate, treat motivated, a cuddle bug who enjoys people, other dogs, petting, and hard chew toys. He has done well around children ages 2 and 5. He does not like being completely alone, he will bark for a few minutes when left, and he startles at quick movements, swinging, and loud sounds — he runs, he does not lash out — but with time and routine, that startle is softening, just as it is for Tom and Sawyer. Tex is the dog for someone who does not need instant, effusive affection to feel chosen. He is for someone who understands that the quiet dog who finally leans into you has given you something bigger than a greeting. He has given you his trust. He has been neutered, and he did really well after surgery. Like his brothers, he is kennel trained — no accidents when kenneled — and used to getting a biscuit when he is put up. He is learning sit and lay, and he is still learning the leash, where he tends to hit the ground at first. And fair warning, in the best way: Tex does not sit still. He is the hardest of the three to photograph, and the easiest to laugh at. Picture this: Tex, after a few days in your home, no longer watching from the edge of the room — asleep near you, because he has stopped checking whether you are going to disappear. Good to know: Great Pyrenees mix puppy, the middle-sized of the Tom / Sawyer / Tex trio, and the most reserved of the three. Neutered, kennel trained with no accidents when kenneled, accustomed to a biscuit when put up, learning sit and lay, still learning the leash, does not sit still. Gentle, affectionate, treat motivated, cuddle bug, good around young children. Barks briefly when left, dislikes being completely alone, startles at quick movements and loud sounds, runs rather than showing aggression. Adoption fee $250.
