About Spider

MEET SPIDER! Hello! I'm Spider. Foster Mom also calls me Spider Man, Spider Monkey & Spidey because I can jump up, on & over things, a lot like that webbed superhero. I'm a 6-year-old, 9-pound Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund) who looks very much like a Papillon & a Doxie hooked up one night & made me! I'm short, long & absolutely adorable. Looking at me, you might think I look older than 6, but lemme tell you, looks can be deceiving! I'm fast as lightning & springy like Tigger. I'm vaccinated, heartworm negative, neutered, microchipped & on heartworm prevention. Yes, I lived in a home with a LOT of us. Although we weren't walked on leashes or introduced to new people & places to build our confidence, we knew kindness & love. Our most favoritest place to be is next to you on the couch, ON your lap or snuggled up at bedtime. Foster Mom was told I'm the ultimate shadow, following my person everywhere. Need a bathroom buddy? I got choo!! She was also told I love having something in my mouth, whether it's a favorite toy or a stray sock. I haven't shown much interest in toys here just yet, but everything is still new & I've spent most of my time wearing a cone. That being said, I HAVE discovered that I love eating houseplants! So if you have a green thumb, you may want to keep those plants out of my reach. I'm also discovering the joys of a good chew, preferably one another dog has already started. Apparently, that helps me figure out what I'm supposed to do with it. Although once I've claimed it, I'd prefer nobody try to steal it back! Here's where YOU come in. Will you help me become a more confident Adventure Buddy? My housetraining is coming along, but with so many of us here, more one-on-one time would really help. Foster Mom plays the "check your pants" game. Clean pants? Treat! Potty in the yard? Treat & a "good potty!" Wait patiently while she puts everyone's pants back on? Another treat. Consistency is key! I'll also need help with leash training. I'm getting comfortable having one attached, but walking out in that big world is still a little scary. I could be a flight risk while learning, so a securely fenced yard is required while I build confidence, learn leash skills & bond with my person. You & I working together on this - oh, the bond we'll have! I'd be okay with another fun pup who doesn't mind me occasionally trying to be in charge when things get a little too zany. Coming from a home with so many dogs, we all kinda took turns being the scolder & the scolded. I'm still learning that not everything needs my opinion. I also really enjoy my chews, and while I'm perfectly fine with Foster Mom taking one, another dog trying to take MY chew? Well, we might have a disagreement. It's something to be mindful of as I learn to share space & resources with other dogs. Oh, and have you ever heard a Spider scream? Foster Mom has! Apparently, I have a VERY dramatic way of expressing my BIG FEELINGS. She thought I was losing a leg or had my paw caught in my collar. Nope! Just me, letting it all out. Big Feelings have to come out somehow! And as much as I LOVE being with my person, I also need to learn that it's okay when we're not glued together. Socialization, enrichment, a little independence & new adventures (at my pace!) will help me become a more confident guy. Cats? Dunno! We don't have any test kitties here. Kids? Older, respectful ones would be lovely. Elementary-aged kids could work, too, as long as YOU make sure I'm respected. No lying on me or pulling my ears or tail, please! I'm a pretty amazing little love sponge who would love nothing more than to be your shadow, snuggle buddy & future Adventure Buddy!
