About August

Meet August! With his warm tan coat, handsome black mask, and soulful brown eyes, August is truly a remarkable dog. Estimated to be about a year old, he weighs around 45–50 lbs and is thought to be a Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix. While we guess at his mix, we don’t expect him to grow much larger. August has been at the shelter since August, patiently waiting for someone to see the sweet boy behind the kennel door. August walks well on a leash, making him a lovely walking companion. He thrives on time spent with people and would enjoy a variety of outings, from neighborhood strolls to weekend adventures. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, making him a potential great addition to a home with a canine companion. However, he could also thrive as an only dog with ample attention and socialization. His affectionate nature is one of his finest qualities. Described as sweet, August is happiest when receiving cuddles and belly rubs. Being still a young dog, he is looking for an active family who can provide regular exercise, play, and mental enrichment while also simply enjoying time spent together. Adopters should be willing to offer him patience as he adjusts to home life. Establishing a consistent routine and reinforcing potty training, basic obedience, and household manners will greatly benefit his transition. August’s history with cats is uncertain, though he may be okay with a feline friend if introductions are handled gradually. Due to his limited exposure to children, a home with older, respectful kids comfortable around dogs his size would be ideal. Access to a yard for safe play would be a bonus for August, but it is not strictly necessary. Apartments may be an option if his exercise needs are consistently met. This lovely boy deserves a family that is committed to him for life, valuing his affectionate personality and helping him grow in confidence. August is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and on monthly preventatives. He has also tested negative for heartworm. He is currently located in Texas but will be transported to his new home once adoption is finalized. Please note, adopters will not meet him in person prior to the adoption process. The shelter is overcrowded and many wonderful dogs like August are left waiting for a chance. We would love to see him swap his kennel for a cozy home filled with love and belly rubs. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.

Questions about August

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

August, as a Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix, typically thrives in an environment where he can get regular exercise and social interaction. A home with a yard is ideal, but he can adapt to apartment living if his exercise needs are consistently met.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

August appreciates access to a safe outdoor area for play. A securely fenced yard is preferred, but walks and outings can also fulfill his outdoor time.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

August has limited exposure to children, so a home with older, respectful kids who can comfortably interact with a dog his size would likely be the best fit.
