About Spike
Meet Spike! A spirited two-year-old German Shepherd mix currently residing in Amherst, MA. His striking black coat accented by a bright white patch on his chest perfectly frames his intelligent eyes, which seem to study the world with curiosity. Weighing about 50 pounds, this medium-sized boy balances athletic energy with tender devotion. Spike is affectionate, highly intelligent, and wonderfully playful. He thinks he’s a lap dog and will gently climb into your lap, leaning in for belly rubs and soaking up all the attention. His favorite toys are squeaky ones, and he lights up during playtime, eagerly chasing and showing off his prizes. An enthusiastic swimmer, he joyfully leaps into the pool no matter the weather, making him an ideal match for an outdoor-loving guardian. When Spike first arrived, he was fearful and easily startled, often keeping his distance. Over the past year and a half, he’s grown tremendously in confidence, now seeking affection, instigating play, and eagerly cuddling up. Though still a bit barky around strangers, he quickly looks to his people for reassurance. He’s crate-trained, house-trained, neutered, and microchipped. Spike knows commands like sit, wait, and comes when called. He patiently waits for treats and responds well to structure and positive reinforcement. While he can feel uneasy about loud noises, he relaxes in his crate and naps peacefully when left alone for short periods. Spike has lived well with female dogs, though he may be selective, suggesting thoughtful introductions are beneficial. His adoption fee has been generously waived by his family! Spike needs a patient, experienced pet parent who can provide a fenced yard, caring guidance, and steady leadership. In return, he offers unwavering loyalty, laughter, and incredible lap cuddles. Are you ready to help this devoted boy start his next chapter? Let’s make it official, apply to adopt!
