I’m a handsome, 2 1/2-year-old, 56-pound Pit Bull Terrier mix, with the cutest, expressive face and ears, that famous smile, and a spunky, exuberant, lovely personality. I’m already crate trained and I’m partially housebroken too. Please stay patient with me when I have accidents, especially as I’m getting settled in and acclimated to my new home. A consistent schedule and routine will help me learn. I came to Wayside as a stray. It was lonely out there on my own, but the big shelter can be stressful for an active and energetic fella like me. I caught a huge break when I was able to spend a week in a loving foster home. It was incredible to live in a home, and it was just what I needed. Now I’m back at the shelter, rested, rejuvenated, and ready to find you! I want so much to be the best dog that I can possibly be, so I’ll need your help with that! I’m one smart cookie who loves to learn and train. In fact, I’m currently enrolled in a couple different training classes at Wayside, so I’ll have plenty of tools and skills to bring to my new home. I learn and pick up on new things quickly. For instance, when I first got to my foster home, I had a tendency to try to bolt out of open doors, so Foster Mom taught me to sit and wait. She used positive reinforcement training to help me learn what was expected of me, and I loved making her happy and proud. I like to stay busy, and I need structure and routine. Once I have that, I am the nicest dog to share your life with. In foster, I stayed in my crate when no one was home or when I wasn’t able to be supervised, as well as at night. The first night, I barked, whined, and cried before drifting off to sleep. But by week’s end, I hopped right in my crate and didn’t make a peep all night. I never had accidents there either. I don’t have a lot of experience living in a home, so I still act like a puppy in many ways, and I need to be supervised. While I could be ornery at times, I never destroyed anything, although I did make Foster Mom giggle when I brought her slippers to her time and again. I loved getting attention from her and knowing that she was nearby, but I’m not a clingy or needy dog who craves constant attention and pets. And while I have an extra amount of energy, I’m also able to settle down nicely and calmly, once I’ve had the chance to play or to take a long walk. I’m able and happy to peacefully lounge around the house or yard in pure contentment. Although I sure enjoy being with my people, it’s hard for me to put into words just how much I absolutely LOVE to hang out with and to play with my dog friends! I lived with 4 other dogs in my foster home, each with their own distinctive personalities, and I did excellent with every single one, including old, young, grumpy, playful, you name it. I took corrections well, I was happy to take breaks when needed, and I quickly learned which dogs wanted to be playful and rowdy with me. I will need a home with another playful, active dog as an outlet for my energy. I also need to have a fenced yard in my new home, where I can run and play and goof off to my heart’s content. Daily walks are another great way to spend my time and to burn energy. I love sniffing and exploring new areas. I have an excellent foundation for loose leash walking, but, like with so many things in life, I’m still a work in progress. Sometimes I bark at people or various strange things I notice during walks. A harness will be beneficial to help me stay focused and by your side. I enjoy going for car rides too, always eager to jump right in and experience whatever adventures await. I’m such a great dog who will make someone very happy. I need you to be patient and committed to me, to teach me boundaries and structure, and to show me love and attention every day. I will need a home with kids over the age of 6, and if you have kids under the age of 10, I will need to meet them before we go home together, to make sure that we’re a good match. I want to make sure that the whole family is comfortable with my enthusiasm and zest for life. I can’t wait to be part of a family, to feel like I finally belong, to have a home of my very own. I’ve waited my whole life for you. I dream about you every night. And I know that you’re out there and that you might need me just as much as I need you. I’m here and I’m ready to be your loyal dog.
