Meet Mama Suzie! Suzie is a very sweet and affectionate adult mixed-breed girl with a heart as big as her love for snuggles and adventure. Her breed may be a mystery—Lab? Beagle? Hound? A little bit of everything?—but there’s no mystery about how much she loves her people! Suzie is the total package for someone looking for a loyal companion who truly thrives on connection. She absolutely adores attention and loves to cuddle. In fact, Suzie is convinced she’s a lap dog! She gives the gentlest, most polite little kisses and is quite the hugger. When she wants some love, she’ll lean right into you and soak up all the affection she can get. But don’t let her love of cuddles fool you—Suzie also has a serious adventurous and athletic side! She has bursts of very high energy and absolutely loves to chase squirrels. In fact, she may be one of the most athletic dogs we’ve ever had. She has even managed to jump a 6-foot fence by using a tree stump near the fence as a launching point... twice! The good news is that Suzie wasn’t interested in running away. Both times, she stayed right by the fence and barked to let her people know exactly where she was. Because of her energy and athleticism, Suzie needs a home that can keep both her body and her mind busy. Her ideal person will be active and willing to give her plenty of exercise, including long walks, along with training and enrichment to keep her incredibly smart mind engaged. Suzie is house trained and walks very nicely on a leash. She loves chewing on rope toys and has an adorable habit of napping upside down. At night, she sleeps downstairs and settles in just fine without a crate. Suzie can be initially reactive when meeting new people, particularly men, and will bark until she is comfortable. Her current family has found that introducing new people outside and having them use treats before Suzie comes inside has helped tremendously. Her forever family should be willing to continue to work with her through slow, positive introductions. While Suzie, has previously lived with multiple other dogs, and initially got along with the dogs in her current home, Suzie does appear to be dog selective. She has developed some resource guarding behaviors with another dog in her home. While no one was bitten (or hurt!), the behaviors continue. Therefore, we think she may do best as the only dog, or with a laid-back, nonchalant pup who doesn't mind sharing their toys, treats and humans! Suzie is a wonderful combination of sweet and spirited. She is affectionate, funny, incredibly smart, athletic, and full of personality. She just needs the right person who understands that a loving dog can also have boundaries that require patience, consistency and lots of activity! Her ideal home is an active, experienced person or family who can give her the exercise, structure, mental stimulation, and one-on-one attention she needs. Given her excellence in agility, a securely fenced yard is a must!
