AvailableAbout Duke VIII
Meet Duke VIII, a wonderful boy estimated to be between 4 to 6 years old. His journey started when he was left in the woods with a blanket and some treats, but thankfully, he found his way to a shelter and then to a loving foster home. Despite his rough past, where he endured an unprovoked attack by another dog, Duke has shown remarkable resilience. This gentle giant weighs about 75 pounds and has a heart full of love to give. Duke adores people and will roll over for belly rubs at every opportunity. If you stop petting him too soon, he’s not shy about reminding you to keep going with a gentle paw. He often carries around his emotional support toys and even has a blankie he snuggles with, which is pretty adorable in a dog of his size. Duke enjoys car rides, frozen treats, and has a playful side when it comes to hoses or sprinklers—just turn on the water, and he morphs into a kid at summer camp! He is house trained and knows a variety of commands like sit, stay, paw, and more. He’s learning leash manners and does well with redirection. His new family should know that Duke can be reactive on leash when he sees other dogs, so a patient adopter will need to help him navigate those situations. He also prefers not to be crated, but he is fine being in a gated room—he’ll even sleep in his crate if the door stays open. Duke has made great progress with his separation anxiety and can now be left alone successfully, although he loves being around his people whenever possible. While he has lived with dogs before, careful introductions will be necessary to ensure a harmonious home. He’s done well with older kids but may not always realize his size when seeking affection. After overcoming skin issues from allergies, Duke's coat has improved significantly with care. He’s an affectionate, goofy companion looking for a forever home that can help him build confidence. Duke VIII is ready to bring joy, love, and laughs to your life. What are you waiting for? Apply today!
