Banjo is what happens when a tiny dog lives long enough to become a legend. At 15 years old, this golden-eared Chihuahua mix has fully embraced his final form. He embodies part ancient woodland king, part retired wizard, and part very serious gentleman with stories to tell. Banjo came to us from another rescue in a state south of Lincoln, NE, but his history beyond that is shrouded in mystery, almost like folklore. Though he’s small in stature, his presence is enormous. He doesn’t just enter a room; he arrives like royalty, as if accompanied by invisible attendants and soft music only he can hear, always ready for a new quest. Time has dulled some of his senses—his hearing isn’t as sharp and his eyesight flickers, but he compensates with heightened awareness of warmth, the feel of favorite blankets, and gentle touches. He enjoys a special diet tailored to his needs, which he undoubtedly believes is a feast fit for a king. Banjo allows his human subjects to carry him like the royalty he is, and you might find he has an unofficial snack tax whenever he demands a treat. Still, he likes to wander calmly around his domain, surveying his surroundings with purpose. He has done well with his potty training but needs a little extra supervision as he acclimates to this new environment. His knowing expression shows he understands more than he lets on, especially when it comes to snacks, cuddles, and treats. Overall, Banjo is a gentle spirit, the kind that brings warmth and quiet comfort simply by being near. He’s completed his share of adventures and now seeks a peaceful place to rest. He’s fully vetted, neutered, and ready to accept offerings of comfort, sunbeams, and cozy spots to lay his important head. If you think you could be a good fit for Banjo, apply to adopt today!
