Charlie is a 5-year-old, 78-pound Fox Red Labrador Retriever who has made an incredible transition from farm life to family life. After four months in foster care, he successfully completed heartworm treatment and is now healthy, neutered, and vaccinated. Charlie is ready to find his forever home. Having spent most of his life as an outdoor farm dog, Charlie is adjusting well to indoor living. He’s eager to learn and has become house-trained, enjoys his crate, and walks nicely on a Gentle Leader. Charlie is also picking up commands quickly; he already knows ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and is working on ‘off.’ This happy-go-lucky Lab is full of enthusiasm and loves his human companions. He has an abundance of playful energy that sometimes makes him forget his size, so an active household is ideal. His progress has been impressive, but he still needs guidance to refine his manners, as he can counter surf and occasionally get into harmless mischief. Charlie gets along well with other dogs, although his size and excitement may be a bit much for smaller pups. He cohabitates peacefully with dog-savvy cats and, due to his exuberance, would do best in a home with children over 10 years old. He is vocal and alerts to noises, so an apartment setting wouldn’t suit him well. Charlie has blossomed impressively in just a few months.
