Meet Buttons. This 4-year-old, 10-pound long-haired Dachshund has a distinct flair for life — he seems to have strong opinions about velvet furniture despite never having owned any. Currently a little underweight, this sweet boy is working hard to correct that, approaching mealtime with the seriousness of a tax attorney but with a good dose of optimism. Buttons forms deep attachments to his people, though not in an over-the-top way. He's more the type to say, "I’d love to accompany you to the kitchen," rather than make a fuss. Snuggles, kisses, and belly rubs are his favorite activities, and he would happily be your permanent lap warmer. His sensitive nature makes being alone tough for him; new sounds can startle him, and he’ll let you know if he’s crated alone. But with a reassuring presence, he settles beautifully and has even begun sleeping quietly in his kennel at night. Buttons thrives with a patient adopter, ideally someone who works from home or is retired. He gets along well with small dogs and would do best in a home with older kids or adults. Though sweet, he can be a bit protective of his belongings. While he's making great strides in house training, he still marks occasionally, but we expect this to improve after he’s neutered. He is less convinced about the need for tooth brushing, but with trust and patience, he may come around. Buttons isn’t searching for perfection; he wants a consistent home where relationships flourish one quiet evening, one belly rub, one small victory at a time.
