About Hughie
Hughie is a sweet and gentle 2-year-old male beagle, weighing about 40 pounds. He has a wonderful, tolerant nature and fits well into a family setting, even navigating life alongside a young child with remarkable calmness. When faced with stress, he chooses to quietly step back rather than react, showcasing his gentle disposition. However, Hughie has been grappling with separation anxiety. His current family can’t provide the consistency he needs to address this, causing him distress when left alone. He does well entering his crate for sleep at night but struggles with anxiety when confined during the day. This anxiety leads to barking and attempts to escape, although he hasn’t harmed himself or ingested anything dangerous. Hughie thrives with companionship and would benefit from a home where someone is nearby more often. He’s affectionate and eager to bond. His previous owner mentioned that he would stay if they had a yard and more time for him. This resilient dog is ready for a loving family that can provide the support he needs to feel secure. An Adoption Audition is available for Hughie—a trial period allowing you to see how he fits in your home. Interested? Visit the Fairfax County Animal Shelter to meet him in person!
