About Rufio

Meet Rufio, a sweet Cane Corso mix who currently weighs 66 pounds. His ideal weight is around 75 pounds, and his foster mom is working to help him gain some much-needed weight. Rufio was rescued from the streets back in January 2026. Although he started off shy and uncertain, he’s slowly learning to trust humans. This gentle boy has a delightful temperament; it doesn’t take long for him to warm up. After just a week in his foster home, he began following his foster mom around, seeking affection, and curling up on the couch with the family. He loves the two kids in his foster home, particularly the 9-year-old, while feeling a bit intimidated by the foster dad. Rufio has shown no aggression, merely opting to keep his distance. His energy is low to medium, ideal for quiet evening walks. He doesn’t react to other people or dogs and has been working on his leash etiquette, which has improved. Rufio isn’t vocal much, except for the occasional soft whimper when he’s excited or a goofy howl when his foster mom leaves—it's a humorous little quirk that lasts only a couple of minutes. Currently, he’s living with two senior Chihuahuas who definitely call the shots. Rufio respects their space, displaying no signs of resource guarding, and would thrive with calm, well-mannered doggy companions. Rufio is also house trained. He reliably signals when he needs to go out, enjoys doing his business in the backyard, and is great on walks. He’s crate trained, tolerates it well, and sleeps through the night alternating between his crate and snuggles with his humans. This sweet, nervous boy would flourish with a patient adopter who can offer him the love and security he needs. The journey of earning the trust of a timid dog like Rufio is incredibly rewarding. Rufio is located in Houston, TX, but can be transported to most states for an additional fee of $300. What are you waiting for? Apply today!
