About Lexi

Meet Lexi! Lexi is a sweet and gentle 3yr old, 11lb Shih Tzu who is learning that life can be so much more than what she previously knew. Coming from a breeder who was finally shut down after years of breeding, Lexi spent much of her life living among numerous other dogs with very little exposure to the outside world or the comforts of being a beloved family pet. Because of her past, Lexi can be shy and cautious when faced with new people, places, and experiences. She prefers to take her time getting comfortable and will need a patient family willing to let her adjust at her own pace. Once she begins to trust, however, her soft and affectionate personality starts to emerge, and she enjoys quietly spending time with her people. Lexi is looking for a calm, understanding home with adults only or older, dog-savvy children who can respect her sensitive nature. She thrives with routine, consistency, and gentle encouragement, and each day she becomes a little more confident as she discovers the world around her. Having had very limited experience walking on a leash, Lexi will REQUIRE a secure physical fenced yard for her safety. She is not a candidate for tethering or invisible fencing, and extra care should always be taken when outdoors as she continues building confidence and learning new skills. Lexi does well with other dogs and often finds comfort in canine companionship. She also does not seem to mind cats. She has demonstrated a good understanding of house manners and is continuing to learn what it means to be a cherished member of a family. As a Shih Tzu, Lexi will require regular grooming to keep her coat healthy, comfortable, and free from matting. Most of all, Lexi is searching for a family willing to offer patience, kindness, and unconditional love. In return, she will reward her family with quiet companionship, loyalty, and the joy of watching her blossom into the happy little dog she was always meant to be. Lexi is: Current on Bordetella, Distemper, and Rabies Dewormed Heartworm Tested: Negative Receiving Heartworm and Flea Prevention Microchipped Scheduled for spay surgery at our partner veterinary office in Chesterfield on 7/2 (included in the adoption fee). Many of the animals in our foster program come to us with limited or unknown histories. We make every effort to evaluate each animal's temperament and behavior, including testing their interactions with other dogs, cats, and children (defined as individuals under the age of 18, when available). However, every animal is unique—just as every child and household environment is different. While we strive to set both our foster animals and adoptive families up for success through thorough assessments and transparent communication, **we cannot guarantee any specific behavioral outcome**. Animals can be unpredictable by nature, and behavior may change in new environments or over time. By proceeding with adoption or foster placement, applicants acknowledge and accept this inherent risk and agree that no guarantees, either expressed or implied, are made regarding the temperament or behavior of any animal placed through our program.
