AvailableAbout Lynx
Lynx is settling into foster care and, so far, has been a delightful little guy. He presents as a largely unsocialized 7-month-old puppy who is experiencing many things for the first time, but he's approaching the world with curiosity and surprising resilience. Our first stop after leaving BARCS was the groomer for a much-needed bath and sanitary trim. Lynx was the perfect passenger during the ride. If he could have managed it, he would have happily ridden in my lap the entire way. He tolerated his bath like an absolute champ. The blow dryer, however, was not his favorite invention, so we finished drying him with towels instead. He accepted brushing and clipping in short sessions, though he became snappy when attempts were made to trim around his face. My impression is that Lynx has likely never been groomed before. He will benefit from slow acclimation, patience, and positive reinforcement to help him become comfortable with future grooming appointments. At home, Lynx was very curious while exploring the basement. I kept a long leash attached because he enjoys hiding under furniture and other objects, which would have made retrieval much easier if needed. Initially, he showed little interest in the toys I offered, but later picked one up and attempted to bury it in a blanket. He also tried to bury a treat, which was both amusing and endearing. When first introduced to his crate, Lynx barked continuously for about 15 minutes before settling down and relaxing. He had one accident in the crate (urination), but otherwise has been eliminating outdoors. He did not eat his dinner on the first night, which isn't unusual for a dog adjusting to a new environment. One thing Lynx has made very clear is that he loves walks. The world seems brand new to him, and he takes it all in with great interest. He barked at a cyclist and a runner during our outing, likely due to his lack of exposure, but he appears to adjust quickly to routine and new experiences. One area where Lynx will need continued support is meeting new people. He appears to require very slow, thoughtful introductions and time to build trust. During an initial introduction to another household member, the person sat quietly on the floor and remained very still to avoid overwhelming him. Despite the non-threatening approach, Lynx initially retreated and then lunged. Based on this interaction and his overall presentation, most of the behaviors I have observed seem to be rooted in fear and uncertainty rather than confidence or intent to engage. As he learns that new people are safe and predictable, his comfort level will likely improve, but adopters should be prepared to give him space, patience, and the opportunity to approach at his own pace. His absolute favorite thing, however, seems to be human companionship. Lynx loves to snuggle, seeks out close contact, and will occasionally reward you with a gentle hand lick. Despite the expected challenges of helping a young, unsocialized dog learn about the world, he has been a wonderful foster guest so far. Overall, Lynx has been great!
