About Maple

Meet Maple, a gentle and calm German Shepherd with a heart ready for her forever family. At 4 and a half years old, Maple brings a mellow, steady energy to the home. She came to her foster after spending time in a shelter and has since made herself quite comfortable. Independent by nature, Maple likes relaxing on her bed away from the busy parts of the house, but will also quietly follow her humans from room to room. She lives for pets and belly rubs and lights up when given attention. Quick to learn, Maple already knows sit, stay, down, and come, and she thrives on connecting with her people through training and affection. Maple has a detective’s nose—she loves to sniff and take in all the interesting scents outside, and she stays alert to every sound. She adores daily walks and occasional bursts of play at the park but spends most of her time lounging at home. Food isn’t a big motivator and she politely sits for meals, never begging. She’s crate trained, though she doesn’t really need the crate, and she’s house trained. Maple is low-key, trainable, and easygoing. Around children, Maple is tolerant but prefers older kids who respect her space. She can be reactive on leash with other dogs and will need continued guidance to build confidence during introductions. Still, she has shown she can be calm around other dogs in the right setting, especially indoors. She’s great with people—docile during grooming and vet visits, and completely at ease when handled. Maple would do best in a peaceful home with older children, daily walks, and maybe a fenced yard for occasional zoomies. Currently being fostered in Richmond, VA, Maple is up to date on shots, spayed, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
