About Butch
Butch is a smart, medium-sized shepherd mix born in February 2024, and he’s only available to a home in Hanover County, VA, Richmond Metro, or any area bordering Hanover. He’s young, fit, and bursting with energy—a dog who wants to be outside moving, preferably with a companion willing to keep pace on long walks or jogs. Affectionate and loving with people, Butch does best as the main guy in your home, since he has a dominant streak around other dogs and won’t thrive in off-leash situations or busy dog parks. He walks calmly on leash, even near other dogs, as long as they keep to themselves. Apartment life isn’t for him; he needs an open yard, and a tall fence is a must—this guy can jump. Mentally and physically stimulating activities, like agility training, will be key to his happiness. House training is still a work in progress, so expect to put time into his routine. Butch wants an owner who understands herding instincts and can offer steady, firm guidance. In return, he’ll be a loyal, energetic friend for life. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!

Questions about Butch
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Butch, being a German Shepherd mix, thrives in an environment that offers plenty of space to move—ideally a house with a large, secure yard. Apartments or small condos are not a good fit for him.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
German Shepherd mixes like Butch need room to stretch their legs and run. A yard with a tall fence suits him best, allowing Butch to burn off energy safely.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
This breed can do well with children, especially when socialized early, though Butch’s dominant personality means supervision is wise with younger kids.
