About Salt
Salt is a 9-month-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix, born in August 2025, and she currently lives in a foster home in Richmond, VA. After being abandoned at a young age, Salt has transformed into a loving, sensitive young dog who wants to be close to people. She is drawn to laps, follows her people everywhere, and loves cuddling, especially at night. Salt has made big strides learning to trust touch, now welcoming pets, belly rubs, and gentle play. She may be shy at first, but her approach is gentle—she’ll back away if uncertain, then roll over for a belly rub when she feels safe. She’s curious, quiet, and happiest with company, often following her foster around the house and yard. Salt completed a board and train program to help build her confidence. She arrives with trainer support to ensure smooth transitions. She’s house and crate trained, rides well in the car, and takes treats gently. Salt gets along easily with other dogs, doesn’t chase cats, and ignores backyard chickens. She needs a fenced yard and a confident dog companion to help her adjust, plus a family with older kids who won’t overwhelm her. She’s not a barker and is notably quiet for her breed. Salt is up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and her adoption fee covers her continued care. Her sun sign is Leo, which probably explains her tendency to seek out affection and warmth.
