About Cupcake
Cupcake started life with some tough breaks, likely spending much of her early days outside as a neglected yard dog. Rescued from an Alabama shelter along with her mom, she arrived shy and covered in ticks, but she's worked hard to leave that past behind. Now about 2 years old, this medium-sized Beagle/Australian Shepherd mix (weighing about 35 lbs) is fostered in Maine, learning what real family life feels like. Cupcake is slow to warm up, but she’s worth the wait—her silly, gentle personality starts to bloom once she feels safe. She absolutely adores physical activity and is happiest when swimming or playing, especially with other dogs. Inside, she’s completely housebroken and has never had an accident. Despite her sweet nature, Cupcake has a funny habit of refusing to get on furniture and prefers to stretch out on the floor. Walks on leash are a breeze, though her hound instincts kick in and her nose sometimes leads the way. Recall needs some work, and car rides mean you’ll want a seatbelt harness—she’s enthusiastic about window sniffing. Cupcake does not like crates but is trustworthy when left out; she settles quietly and isn’t destructive. Her play style with dogs is vocal, and while she’s mostly fascinated by cats, she does try to chase them, so a cat-free home is ideal unless your cats are particularly savvy. She loves children who visit and is happiest with another dog who can show her the ropes. Food is her favorite training reward, and she’s eager to please. This sweet, goofy girl will make an incredible companion for adopters ready to offer patience, guidance, and room to play. Click apply and let the tail-wagging begin!
