Named after the brave and kind-hearted heroine from The Dark Crystal, Kira is a three year old chihuahua finding her way in a big and sometimes confusing world. She is learning that people can be kind, routines can be trusted, and home is supposed be a safe place. Seeing as she came from a hoarding situation where all she knew was chaos, many things in life are still new for Kira. That being said, she's making steady progress in her foster home every day. Shy and hesitant when she came to us just over two months ago, she's beginning to show her adventurous side now. In fact, she's often the first dog in her foster home racing out to the porch to see what's happening in the world! Kira enjoys affection—on Kira's terms, of course. A gentle scritch in the right moment is one of her favorite things, and earning her trust feels like a special privilege to the humans in her life. As she becomes more comfortable, she's also learning how to play with both people and other dogs. She's still deciding what she thinks about leash walking, it is new after all. At the moment, Kira is perfectly happy to be carried around the block alongside the other dogs while she takes in all the sights and sounds from the safety of a comfy dog carrier. With quiet encouragement, she will continue building her confidence. Kira is looking for an adoptive home with humans who understand that trust is earned and that some of the most rewarding relationships are built one small step at a time. She is looking for someone patient, gentle, and willing to let her blossom at her own pace.
