About Sugar Bear

Sugar Bear is an 18 lb, medium-coated Australian Shepherd living in Richmond, VA, who’s almost two years old. Born under the sunny sign of Leo, he’s got plenty of personality to match. His original owner could no longer care for him, so he’s looking for a fresh start with someone ready to meet his big heart and active energy. Sugar Bear is independent but craves affectionate moments—especially belly rubs, chest scratches, and ear rubs. If you want to share playtime, he’ll bring toys right to your feet, eager for a round of fetch or tug-of-war, though he’s happy to toss them around solo too. He’s always up for outdoor adventures, sprinting along the fence or sunbathing by the front door, catching the breeze. Sugar Bear loves lounging by the window or curling up near you on the couch. He likes to keep you close at night—even if he sometimes sprawls on the floor when it’s time to sleep. He’s house trained, vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and on preventatives. New sights and people can make him a bit wary at first, but he comes around with patience. He isn’t used to kids, and while he does fine with some dogs, he can be skittish around others. He’s never used a crate but has no trouble roaming the house. A securely fenced yard is important—he’s a bit of an escape artist. Sugar Bear begs for food and needs reminders on manners there. Walks on a harness come naturally, and he’s learning new commands. His adoption fee is sponsored by Beagles and Bentleys. If you’re ready to welcome a loving, quirky companion, Sugar Bear would be a great fit for an engaged, attentive household. Ready to fall in love? Hit apply and lets get started.
