Hi there! My name is Howard and I'm an 8 year old Chihuahua Mix currently living at the Santa Barbara Campus, eager for a new home! Meet Howard: a distinguished little gentleman with the sweetest soul and the softest sleepy eyes. This adorable 8-year-old Chihuahua was found as a stray in Santa Maria (though honestly, we have no idea how someone could lose such a lovable little guy). Howard is ready to leave shelter life behind and spend his golden years exactly how he deserves: cozy, loved, and snuggled up close to his favorite person. Howard's idea of a perfect day is simple - soft blankets, gentle strolls, lap naps, and quiet companionship. He's a staff favorite and has been going out for lunch dates and Howard was the perfect tiny companion. He happily relaxed in the passenger seat during the drive, wagged his tail and bounced through the grass at the park, then curled up in their lap to people-watch during lunch. On the drive back, he promptly fell asleep in their lap like he'd been doing it forever. He has a calm, affectionate nature and seems happiest just being near his people. Howard does have some arthritis, so he'll need an adopter who understands the needs of senior dogs and can help keep him comfortable as he ages. He can also be a bit of a picky eater with a smaller appetite, so finding his favorite foods may take a little patience and creativity. Howard isn't asking for much - just a warm bed, kind hands, and someone to love him through his senior years. In return, he'll provide endless cuddles, loyal companionship, and the quiet comfort only a sweet senior dog can give. Adoptions are open 12pm-4:30pm every day, except Wednesdays, and no appointment is needed. Like all SBH animals, when I am adopted, I will have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adoptions also include a certificate for a complimentary post-adoption veterinary exam from a local clinic and our partners at Hills Science Diet will provide a supply of food for my first few days at home.
