Mara & Emily
AvailableMara & Emily are bonded senior Dachshund sisters living in Jacksonville, FL. Both are spayed females, around 12 years old, and considered small at about 11 pounds each. They are house trained, up to date on vaccinations, and have special needs: Mara has IVDD and both require soft food due to previous dental issues. These sweet girls are looking for a quiet, caring home where they can stay together and enjoy their golden years.
About Mara & Emily
Meet Mara (the red one) and Emily (black and tan), also known in foster circles as Ginger and MaryAnn. Both are 12-year-old bonded Dachshund sisters, weighing in around 11 pounds each—definitely on the smaller side. They’re spayed and up to date on vaccines, fully potty trained if let out regularly, and crate trained, sleeping curled up together through the night. Mara and Emily get along with other small dogs but haven’t been tested with cats or large dogs. At first they can be a little shy, but they warm up quickly and make loyal, loving companions. Walks on leash and lizard hunts in the backyard are favorite pastimes, though these two really love snuggling with each other or lounging on the couch with their person. Mara has IVDD and receives monthly Librella injections to stay mobile. She can’t do stairs, but she’s learned to use a dog ramp and moves around independently. Dental care was tough for both—Emily lost all her teeth and Mara has a few left—so they eat only soft food now. Both girls are very easy going and thrive in a quiet home environment. Mara & Emily must stay together. They travel well and are fostered in Orlando, but are ready to settle into a loving forever home in the Jacksonville area. Questions about Mara & Emily
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Mara & Emily, as Dachshunds, do best in calm home settings. They love cozy spaces, gentle routines, and being close to people, making them a great fit for apartments or houses with attentive owners.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Dachshunds like Mara & Emily don't need a huge yard. Short walks and a small backyard are enough, especially since they enjoy supervised sunbathing and gentle backyard explorations.
