AvailableAbout Max
● 11 years, 15lbs ● Rescued in Texas after his last owner passed away 💙 Foster Note Max (called Maxie) is a confident little king who marches to the beat of his own drums. In the midst of absolute chaos (ie, tristate public transit), he remains a calm, vigilant observer. It takes a lot to really rattle little Max; in fact we haven’t figured out what it would take to be considered more than an inconvenience (right now, baths are the leading thing he dislikes, but even those he tolerates with just a few extra body shakes). His absolute favorite thing to do is go on walks. So it’s a good thing he’s such a good walker with no observed reactivity. His foster would rate his energy level as low to moderate. After a nice walk, he becomes an independent Velcro dog. He will move from pet bed to pet bed while following you from room to room, because a real leader needs to supervise their servants. He enjoys napping by your side with occasional pets. While he won’t climb directly into your lap (that’s too undignified), he wants to be near you and know where you are. If you want to cuddle him, he will tolerate it (and quietly enjoy it). Since the world is his domain, very little seems to bother Max. He does well with dogs of all sizes. He can occasionally be a bit possessive of his humans and his food when with other dogs (mostly at home, doesn’t seem to care when outside the home), but can be redirected. Luckily, he doesn’t seem to care if other dogs are snippy towards him, simply ignoring them like the calm king he is. If his future home has other dogs, he would benefit from some human servants who know how to set boundaries. He hasn’t met any cats or children at his current foster home, but it’s suspected he would be just as unphased by their presence. He has been unreactive to older children he’s met in the wild. However, he would likely do best with somewhat older children as he can be a little bundle of muscle when he gets excited and jumps around. Max is fully potty trained and hasn’t had any accidents in the house after he settled in. He isn’t a huge fan of the crate but will stoically tolerate it if you insist. He’d much prefer to laze quietly on a pet bed though. He also knows “sit.” He may know other commands, but his foster hasn’t figured them out (but that seems like more of a human user issue). PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TO ASK IF HE/SHE IS AVAILABLE. IF THIS LISTING IS UP, THE DOG IS NOT ADOPTED YET. Also, we have a very high volume of applications and we are all volunteers. We cannot respond to every application personally. Please make sure your application gives us a good picture of your family and the life you plan on providing a dog from our rescue. We choose a home based on the BEST FIT for EACH dog and approve on a dog by dog basis. Thank you!
