About Mayo

Mayo looks a bit like Eeyore, but don’t be fooled—he’s got a much sunnier outlook. This 6-7 year old male German Shepherd Dog has bounced back from a rough start after arriving at the shelter with medical problems, including an enlarged prostate, infections, a strong odor, and heartworm. He’s almost through his heartworm treatment now. Mayo also has some orthopedic issues that make his walk a little clumsy, but he shows no signs of pain and keeps his spirits up. He won’t be up for long runs or agility, but he’s ideal for someone who wants a relaxed, loyal companion to share quiet time, binge TV, or work from home. Mayo craves attention and leans on his people. He does have separation anxiety and needs someone home most of the time. Mayo gets along with other dogs, both large and small, although he guards his food and toys around them when in his crate. He isn’t a fit for homes with cats or small animals. While he keeps his crate clean, he may have accidents in the house, particularly if unsupervised. At about 100 pounds, he’s very strong—and tends to use that strength if he spots food (or a cat!). His future family will need to commit to training and management. Mayo will thrive with attention, stability, and someone who understands his needs. What are you waiting for? Apply today!
