Meet Carmen! 10 lbs | 1 Year Old | Chihuahua Carmen is a sweet and loving little Chihuahua with a gentle soul and a heart full of devotion for her people. This adorable girl unexpectedly found herself dropped off at one of our foster homes — only to surprise everyone by delivering two tiny puppies just one week later. Despite the unexpected changes in her life, Carmen has remained incredibly social, affectionate, and eager to be close to those she trusts. Carmen thrives on companionship and prefers to stay near her people whenever possible. She is the type of dog who will happily follow you from room to room, always wanting to be part of whatever you are doing. Because of this, her future family will need good spatial awareness, as she loves being under-foot and close by at all times. She has done well with cats and seems to prefer calmer, low-energy dogs that are similar in size to her. While she is learning that larger dogs are not out to harm her, it does appear that something in her past may have left her fearful or uncertain around big dogs. Slow introductions and respectful canine companions will help continue building her confidence. Carmen is not trained to walk on a leash and will require a securely physically fenced yard for her safety. She is not a good fit for a tether or invisible fence system. She can also be vocal when alerting her people to possible “dangers,” making her a typical little Chihuahua watchdog who likes to stay aware of her surroundings. This sweet girl is crate trained and has demonstrated a good understanding of house manners. She would do best with older dog-savvy children who can respect her size and boundaries. Carmen is looking for a patient, loving family that understands the Chihuahua personality and is ready to give her the stability and affection she deserves.
