About Scout

Meet 26-Scout! 🐾 Male Terrier/mix Approx. 6mos. old Approx. 8 lbs. Cats: Yes Potty Trained: Yes, on schedule Scout is a young, scruffy little terrier mix with the softest ginger-and-cream coat you’ll ever touch. His fur may look coarse and rugged, but don’t let that fool you—it’s surprisingly silky-soft, just like the sweet little guy underneath it. At under 10 pounds, Scout is the perfect compact sidekick with a big personality packed into a tiny frame. Scout’s favorite thing in the world is being with his people. Whether he’s following you around the house, curling up close, or occasionally burrowing under the blankets for a cozy nap, he’s happiest when he’s part of whatever you’re doing. He’s also a friendly social butterfly who loves meeting new people and making new friends. This curious little explorer likes to investigate everything, which can occasionally land him in harmless mischief. If there’s something interesting to sniff, inspect, or sneak a closer look at, Scout is probably already on the case. Scout is potty trained in his current routine but will likely need a little refresher as he adjusts to a new home and schedule. Like many recently neutered young males, Scout is still learning his manners with other dogs and figuring out where he fits socially. The good news is he takes correction well and responds appropriately when another dog lets him know they need space. He’s also comfortable around cats—if one runs, he may give chase, but it’s all playful curiosity, not aggression. He’s respectful when corrected and understands when kitty says “not today.” Scout does have a little separation anxiety when it comes to confinement. His first night in a kennel was tough, and while he improved with time, he’d occasionally have a rough night before settling down fairly quickly. He much prefers having room to relax (like being gated in a kitchen) over being crated while people are moving around or out of sight. And one very important thing to know: Scout believes food is best when shared. Yours, his, everyone’s. If snacks are happening, Scout would like to formally volunteer as tribute. Scout would thrive in a home that can give him patience, guidance, and lots of companionship while he settles in. In return, you’ll get a lovable, goofy, adventurous little shadow who will happily keep life interesting—and probably steal a bite of your sandwich if you’re not paying attention. If you’re looking for a tiny best friend with a huge heart, Scout may just be your guy.
