About Cadbury

This is Cadbury. He is about four months old, weighs 28 pounds and is neutered. Cadbury is living in a foster home so if you're interested in adopting him, the first step is to email us at pets@michianapets.org for an application. Cadbury needs to be adopted into a home with a confident, friendly dog. Interested adopters must have experience with German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois and/or working dogs. Here's a note from his foster mom: "Cadbury is the much more reserved and hesitant of the two puppies. He is potty-trained and loves Benebones and other hard chew toys. He's still too timid to go on a walk but loves playing in the yard. He gets along well with my two dogs and follows their lead. He takes treats and sits like a polite gentleman. His recall is coming along well. After a while he will howl with you! If he's not contained and being monitored in a secured yard, he should be doubled up with a harness and Martingale collar...he can get squirrely when nervous. He's a very gentle guy and is super observant. He's not as dependent on people as he is other dogs, but does not like to be alone. He loves napping on the couch and liverwurst treats. Cadbury is not the biggest cuddler, but I think that will change over time as he builds trust. Cadbury is not into being touched or handled by strangers. It takes a long time to build trust and familiarity. He does better in calm environments, but is also very active and playful. Cadbury is super dependent on his fursister and it must be acknowledged that he may have a challenging adjustment period. He is intelligent and observes everything. He will require A LOT of time, patience and commitment. Cadbury can crawl over gates and has never been in a locked crate since he does so well just hanging out. He can be an escape artist when introduced to new environments but does improve over time. To set him up for success as an adult dog, it's going to take special, hugely-committed humans. He has succeeded with us so we know it is very possible for him to continue to do so. Cadbury has done well with older, very respectful kids. He's never shown any aggression, but a slow approach and a slow adjustment is the way to making it all successful for him." -Cadbury's foster mom.
