Onyx β ID# 19042 β Kennel #801 β Arrived May 15th β Poodle/Golden Retriever Mix (Goldendoodle) β Black β Male β 9 Years Old β 65 lbs β Neutered β Up to Date on Vaccines β Heartworm Negative Onyx is a nine-year-old black Goldendoodle with a heart as big as his fluffy, teddy-bear frame. You may wonder how a Goldendoodle can be black β it happens when the Poodle's gene for black coat color is dominant, and the result is a dog as striking and beautiful as Onyx. He has spent his entire life in one home, the only home he has ever known, until that world changed around him when his family's situation shifted and his owner moved to an apartment too small for him. At nine years old, through absolutely no fault of his own, Onyx lost everything familiar in one moment. To make his story even harder, Onyx did not come to the shelter alone. He arrived with his best friend β a companion he had lived alongside for years. That friend has since been adopted, and now Onyx remains here by himself, in a kennel, in a place that must feel nothing like home. He is house trained, dog friendly, good with children, and already knows sit, stay, and shake. The people who know him say he couldn't be any sweeter and that he is beautiful inside and out β and one look at that smiling, scruffy face confirms every single word of it. There is a particular injustice in a nine-year-old dog β well behaved, gentle, and good with everyone he meets β finding himself alone in a shelter after a lifetime of knowing only one home and one family. Onyx did everything right. He was a good boy every single day. He simply deserves better than this, and the person who chooses him will know it the moment they meet him. Senior dogs like Onyx give back in ways that are impossible to fully put into words. They are calm, grateful, and deeply bonded to the people who choose them. Onyx is not a project β he is a gift, already fully formed and ready to pour his whole heart into whoever is wise enough to bring him home. Come meet him in Kennel #801. He will sit, he will shake your hand, and he will remind you exactly why you love dogs. Note - all the listings on Friends of Shelter Animals for Cobb are done by volunteers. If this cat or dog came in as a lost animal, we do not know how they might be with children, other pets, or if house trained. You can bring your pet to the shelter for a meet & greet with your potential new best friend. When inquiring about a cat or dog, please use THE ID NUMBER.
