About Sister

A060704 Sister; spayed female Belgian Malinois mix; est. 2 years; 49.80 lbs Contact: Calaveras County Animal Services (209)754-6509 Website: https://animal.calaverasgov.us/ Email: animal@calaverascounty.gov This lovely girl is Sister, a member of a large group of Malinois/Shepherd dogs to arrive at the shelter from one location. Kept in kennels and crates for most of their lives, these dogs have lacked appropriate developmental and healthy living experiences. They were a bit undernourished, as well. Although they were initially fearful in the chaotic shelter, they have proven to be quite sweet-tempered and easy to handle, allowing us to coax them into friendship with multiple new humans as they've become more comfortable. Additionally, they all seem to get along great with other dogs. Sister, at around two years old, is one of the more mature of the Malinois. A sensitive lady, she was initially one of the more shy ones in the group. She cowered when being leashed, trying to make herself small and keeping her tail tightly tucked on walkies. Once she learned she was safe and loved in the shelter, however, her personality began to come out. She is very affectionate, checking in frequently with her handler and gently accepting treats for a nicely performed sit. Honestly, looking into those beautiful, sweetly sad, liquid brown eyes, we have a hard time refusing her as many treats as she wants. Now that she's feeling more confident, Sister is pleasant to take out on walkies. She is very good when meeting other dogs, though she is more reserved than the younger Malinois puppers. She once snapped lightly at a male dog who was getting all up in her hind end business uninvited. We really can't fault her for that. Hey, a girl's gotta have her boundaries, so fluff off, bud! Sister is a sweetly appealing dog, quiet in nature and loving toward all her new friends. We have been gratified to see her light up with joyfulness during play times and let loose with some epic zoomies . At her moderate size and with her affectionate temperament, she has the potential to be a truly lovely companion. Sister has been spayed and can go home with you right away. She keeps her inner kennel tidy, which is promising, though we cannot make guarantees on house training. We do not have information on her attitude toward cats at this time. As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.
