When Pepper first came to us, she was severely emaciated and clearly had not lived an easy life. While we may never know exactly what her past looked like before she was found abandoned with her puppies, it's clear that she is still learning how to fully trust people again. Pepper can be slow to warm up to new people and definitely seems to prefer women over men, but once she decides you are her person, her love is endless. She absolutely adores attention, wants to be close to her person, and her sweet, affectionate, cuddly personality really begins to shine once she feels safe. Pepper does great in the car and enjoys simply being with her person wherever they go. She is crate trained and, with regular potty breaks, has had no accidents in the house. While she can still be timid at times, she is gaining confidence every single day. Pepper is learning leash manners and does very well overall, though she may pull a bit if she really needs to go potty. One of her favorite things is exploring the yard and sniffing around, and she is always happy to come running back to her foster mom when called. She is very food and treat motivated, which has made helping her build confidence and trust much easier. Pepper is selective with other dogs because she is fearful of them, though she has shown interest in the puppies at her foster home. More than anything, Pepper is looking for a patient and understanding home that will allow her the time she needs to settle in and continue learning that she is safe and loved. In return, she will reward her person with unwavering loyalty and companionship. Pepper truly has so much love to give to the person willing to give her a chance.
