About Gerard
Gerard is a complex but truly endearing small adult Schnauzer in Fargo, ND, looking for an adopter with patience and compassion. He is a shy, sensitive soul who has steadily grown more comfortable and joyful in his foster home. Gerard is neutered and up to date on vaccinations, with a current weight in the small dog range (up to 25 lbs). His ideal home is with another dog—he relies on a confident canine friend for security and trusts his people through patience, routine, and food. Gerard has a grade 2 heart murmur and a grade 2 luxating patella in his right knee; neither require treatment at this time but will need ongoing monitoring by your vet. He’s working on gaining confidence and managing his anxiety, with medication as needed (about $16 for a 60-tablet supply, to be continued under primary vet guidance). Gerard struggles with new people and situations; he barks at strangers and needs slow introductions. Once he bonds, he transforms into a quiet, gentle shadow who loves to snuggle and shamelessly jumps for joy at mealtimes. Potty training is making progress, but he still wears a belly band and is not yet fully house trained. Because he can be a persistent barker and is a flight risk, a securely fenced yard is absolutely required, and he isn't a candidate for apartment or shared-wall living. Only homes with older, considerate kids will be considered to keep things calm and predictable for him. Gerard simply isn’t a fit for every adopter, but if you can give him the understanding he deserves, he’ll reward you with his trust and affection. What are you waiting for? Apply today!
