About Chewie

Adoption Fee: $475 When available, all animals are fixed in accordance with Colorado law, up to date on vaccines (may need boosters), and microchipped! What we know: Litter of 8 (5M, 3F) transferred from Second Chance Dog Rescue in TX. Litter of 10 puppies was found on the side of the road at 1 week old and taken in as bottle babies. Puppies had hookworms and two were hospitalized, one did not survive. Once healthy, 8 in the litter were transferred to CPR at approximately 5 weeks old and a Texas foster kept one. From the foster: 522 Chewie (Chewbaca). This lovable lug is the biggest (by far) and fluffiest of the 4 siblings we fostered. He's reserved and a bit shy, but when he warms up and snuggles in next to you, there is nothing else like it. It's like you've earned something wonderful. Chewie will sit for treats and takes them gently. He loves belly rubs (once you've earned the right, that is). Chewie does tend to run and duck for cover if he hears a loud noise (garbage truck, unexpected barking dog - you know, the scary stuff), but once he knows what it is, he adapts and accepts. Chewie is the least nimble of his cohort. Despite his size (or maybe because of it?), he was the last to learn to use the stairs and he does amble around in an adorable clumsy puppy way. This puppy is going to be someone's best friend and loyal companion. You just know he loves you when he looks at you with those beautiful curious eyes. This was the puppy my son is begging us to keep - if only we had space for another permanent resident! As for the basics? Chewie prefers to potty outside over inside (still accidents inside, but getting there!). If you pay attention, he'll let you know when he needs to go with small whining noises and pacing. He was fostered with 2 medium/large dogs (~50 and ~75 lbs), and did great. He was also a big hit with our two teenagers and their friends. I think it's safe to say he's well socialized. We have no idea how he'd do with cats, but he gets gold stars for his interactions with everyone else! This boy LOVES being outside. I mean, LOVES it. He prefers being outside over inside every time. At times, coaxing him inside has been a struggle. He does love treats, though, so that is good motivation. He has a nice thick, soft coat that insulates him well, so I'd say a home with outdoor access would be best! www.coloradopuppy.org/how-to-adopt
